Treat each experience separately
The basilica, dome, treasury, grottoes and necropolis are distinct visitor experiences. Do not read a reference to one as permission to visit all the others. The basilica’s official visit pages explain its current services; use those descriptions when deciding which reservation is relevant.
Start with the official booking information
The official basilica website offers guided visits in Italian and English and provides information for other languages. Follow its current booking flow for the service you want. A paid guiding or reservation service should be assessed for what it provides; do not assume that every fee is simply a basic church admission charge.
Keep security in your schedule
The official guided-tour information confirms entrance security checks and possible queues during busy periods. A booking does not remove that consideration. Leave space before a museum reservation, particularly if you intend to climb the dome as well.
Prepare for sacred-space rules
The basilica’s guidance requires covered shoulders, long trousers for men, and trousers or skirts below the knee for women. Its visit page recommends travelling with small bags because there is no cloakroom service inside. Read any additional conditions for the selected dome or guided service.
Pair it with the museums carefully
If art collections and the Sistine Chapel are your priority, reserve the museum experience first and plan the basilica around it. If worship or the dome is the focus, reverse that order. Avoid depending on an internal shortcut or an unverified promise of combined access.
